Warning over email invoice virus scam

This is a general warning to people to be very careful opening attachments contained within their emails.

Over the past few weeks we have had a number of emails sent to us containing word document attachments reporting to be invoices.

We have been doing some research and it seems that a number of business accounts across the United Kingdom have been hacked and these email addresses are then used to send out these viruses reported to be invoices for work or other items that people have purchased from companies.

Please check very carefully who has sent you the email. If it is a company or organisation you do not recognise please do not open the attachment.

If on the other hand you recognise the company or organisation, please take a few minutes to pick the phone up and give them a courtesy call to ask if they have recently sent you an email containing an invoice.

It is better to be safe than sorry.

These emails contain a malware virus which could do damage to your machine and send information to external hackers when you are online.

Please make sure that your antivirus software is up-to-date and that you are doing regular scans of your computer.

A secondary piece of software which a number of antivirus companies recommend to use in conjunction with your antivirus software is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
